Really, who doesn’t want to learn more about beer? Plus it’s an entertaining web comic from The Oatmeal, so that means pictures, enjoy!
November 2009
Oh, yeah I’ve got a tumblr don’t I? I took break for a long while, just couldn’t manage all of my online time properly. Haha, kidding, I’m just terribly lazy.
Let’s see, yesterday I saw ‘New Moon.’ I’m not a huge Twilight fan by any means, it’s entertaining. But the new flick gave me what I wanted; some cheesy tween drama, a little more action than the first, it had a few more funny moments, and as always the movies look prettier than real life. Exactly what you want in fantastical escapism.
Speaking of beautiful films, I picked up ‘Star Trek’ on Bluray. My first Bluray and I can’t watch it in all it’s splendor until Christmas. That is when I get my PS3, w0ot!! Can’t wait.
Also, yesterday I volunteered at the newly improved Grandview Theatre. They hosted Crispin Hellion Glover’s Big Slide Show Part 2 as well a screening of “It is fine! EVERYTHING IS FINE.” I have to admit that before this evening I didn’t know a damn thing about Crispin Glover, I’m still a little in the dark about his career. Most of what I saw was the slide show. I was stationed in the theatre to make sure no cameras or phones were out during the performance. Gotta say I probably did a real poor job monitoring because I was so enthralled by his performance. I didn’t have a clue what these short little stories were about but his narration was completely enigmatic.
Then when it came to the film portion we had issues. First we had issues with his film reels, since he resides primarily in the Czech Republic they weren’t compatible with our system. Who’d of thunk? Not that it really mattered because our spool tower (I’m almost positive on that name, basically it’s a contraption that feeds the film into the projector then collects is after it’s spit back out.) had decided to not collect the film coming out of the projector and it was ending up on the floor, eek! Thankfully that was realized while only leader, not his actual film, was be fed through the system. He had another film on his computer, and with a little video feed magic the show went on.
I didn’t leave until 1 am! Apparently Crispin Glover likes to give as much time to his fans as each would like, which translated to a very long line for his book signing that moved very slowly. At the end of it all I got meet him and he was a very charming, down to earth person. Not the crazy freak some people had portrayed him as. He handle all our film issues really well, no tantrums. I confessed to him my complete ignorance of his work but I did tell him how I enjoyed his performance during the slide show and he seemed pleased by that.
So there were some definite moments of unrest, a few pissed off customers, most were appeased with free concessions during the breakdown. Overall I think the event was a success.
The Grandview Theatre opens, for reals, on Dec 4th. Their first film will be, Everybody’s Fine starring Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore, and Sam Rockwell. Check out www.grandviewtheatre.net for upcoming info!
