March 2011
I mentioned this previously in a post about my Geeky Shopping Spree but I thought I’d bring it up again unless it passed under most people’s radar.
Here’s the setup. Justice League: Cry for Justice is a game changer for quite of few of DC’s heroes, especially for their valiant archers. A particularly noteworthy bit is Green Arrow murdering Prometheus. Now, I’m not going to say he didn’t deserve it but as most people should know heroes don’t kill. At least that’s what we teach our children. But in the reality of comics (Ha!) Batman is one of the few heroes who holds himself to that code.

Okay, so a pretty dramatic, life-changing scene. Something that, even if fans didn’t like it, will be talked about and will have a huge impact on the future of Green Arrow.
Here’s what I bought over the weekend,

Yes, they’ve packaged them together in the Action League series of toys, toys I’m sure are targeted for kids even if big kids like me buy them too. Here’s what I wrote earlier,
Yes, this is a child’s toy. And yes it features Green Arrow and Prometheus. Why is this weird and funny? Well, if you’ve read Justice League: Cry for Justice you know Prometheus destroyed a sizeable chunk of Star City, which royally pissed off Green Arrow. So much so he hunted down the villain and murdered him. Yes, murdered him, tied him to a chair and shot him the head with an arrow. After which Green Arrow admits his crime is then imprisoned, ostracized by the entire hero community, his wife, Black Canary leaves him and he’s banished to live a stupid, magical forest. The back packaging puts it so elegantly:
A final showdown indeed. I read this and immediately had to buy it. Either someone marketing this toy isn’t up to date on the current DC comics or this is some sick joke. One I find hilarious, even if it might be a poor choice for a kid’s toy recommended ages three and up.
There must be others who find this is twisted and funny as me, right?
While I know we are all eagerly anticipating the arrival of X-Men: First Class it seems 20th Century Fox hasn’t given up hope on continuing the X-Men series began by Bryan Singer. There has been some pretty significant talk about a sequel to 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and that this fourth film would lead into a fifth. This comes in light of the news that Fox is trying to push out other Marvel movies as quickly as possible, Deadpool for example…
Recently at CinemaCon footage from Marvel’s Thor was shown to fans and has confirmed Hawkeye, as played by Jeremy Renner will be appearing in the film. And it’s more than a simple walk-on cameo. He actually has lines! Cinema Blend is reporting…
The big screen adaptation of Fraggle Rock has been kicking around pre-production hell for some time now. Why it hasn’t made any progress I don’t know, now is the time to adapt properties from the 80s, everyone else is. But it seems if we have anyone to blame it’s The Weinstein Company. Cory Edwards is attached to direct the Fraggle Rock movie and he’s made a post on his blog explaining the delay…
Earlier this week friends of mine and local nerds, @Lisapieces & @Ztrooper informed me local thrift stores we’re selling items from Think Geek. That’s right, the amazing crack Think Geek provides at super low prices. SCORE! They had the incredible luck of snagging two tauntaun sleeping bags for $13! Seriously, those things go for $100 online! Needless to say I’m a little jealous. Okay, I might be seething with it but I still was able to find some cool stuff for myself.
The thrift shop I visited mostly had t-shirts. But what t-shirts!

As you can see I got the Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock and Bazinga! tees from The Big Bang Theory plus a great Firefly shirt. Have to show off my Browncoat pride, you know. But each of these tees were only $4 a piece! Now it’s your turn to be jealous of me.

You might also notice some figures up there too. After the thrift shop I went to a local Target where another friend had informed me they were selling the DC series of POP! Heroes vinyl bobble heads. Well, I had to go and snag myself a Joker bobble head. I almost bought the Batman as well, because I mean, they do make such a pair. But I was responsible and held myself to one. These were also on sale, and oddly enough offered in the Easter section.
Finally, my last purchase had me do a double take and then bust out in incredulous laughter. When you see it up close you’ll understand why I needed to buy it.

The L.A. Times scored the exclusive news today that Amy Adams (Enchanted, The Fighter) has been cast as intrepid reporter, Lois Lane in Zack Snyder’s reboot of Superman. She’ll be joining Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, whom she is nine years older than, and Kevin Costnerand Diane Laneas the Kents. Snyder made the call to Adams while he was in Paris promoting his most recent film, Sucker Punch…

A mere four days after William Shatner hit the big 8-0 his friend and fellow Star Trek actor Leonard Nimoy turns 80. Kind of creepy, isn’t it? As if these two were destined to do great things together.
Leonard Nimoy, as if you didn’t already know, warped in to our American consciousness with his life-altering performance as Mr. Spock in the original Star Trek series. It’s a role he’s been fighting with every day since, initially hating the pointy-eared bastard for typecasting him and later embracing the role and it’s impact on television and science fiction history…
Continue reading over at Nerd Bastards. And wish Leonard a Happy Birthday via Twitter.
I’ve been craving some Star Trek recently I think today is no better reason than to celebrate not just Leonard’s birthday by Bill’s, too!
Live Long and Prosper!
I’ve been neglecting sharing what I write over at Nerd Bastards with all you little tumlberites. Sorry! I’m hoping to ammend that, in fact I’m hoping I can start making myself post everything I write there, here.
For now, enjoy these links to some of my favorite articles I’ve been writing recently. One thing I’d like to note is it’s been a great news cycle for cartoons! Which I greatly enjoy, both the news and the toons.
