Gordon feels betrayed, and maybe he was.
The New Batman Adventures: Over the Edge (1998)
God bless this show for having the balls to do this scene.
I remember in the commentary Bruce Timm was saying that they originally wanted to see Barbara fall and hit the car from the outside, but the network had problems with it. So they did this instead. Bruce Timm ended up liking this version better.
Oh my god, it’s so much better from inside the car. Because that’s the image that Jim would have playing over and over in his head as he went after Bruce and see it through his eyes. It’s so goddamn powerful.
Oh man, this episode. It’s one I remember watching and thinking, “How? HOW!? There’s no way this is real!” And sure, in the end it wasn’t, but it’s still one of the most powerful episodes of B:TAS ever.
And yes, I believe it was Kevin Smith’s podcast Fatman on Batman where Bruce Timm talked about the scene. What exec thought seeing Babs hit the car from Gordon’s POV would be less traumatic, must be an idiot. Maybe it’s less visually graphic, but come on.

It’s really hard to look at DC and not shake your head, chuckling to yourself.
What a silly comic book company, thinking they can fire Gail Simone.
These are just a few of my favorite DC ladies drawn by one of my favorite artists Marcio Takara.
I love and want them all.

By now I’m sure you’re all we aware I already contribute nerdy news for Nerd Bastards. We’ve started a new, weekly Ask column where you can - yes you! - ask questions and have one of us bastards answer them. Brilliant, right? I thought so, force you guys to do some work other than passively perusing our posts.
In the very first edition of Ask the Bastards I tackle a question about the point of having both a Batwoman and a Batgirl, especially when neither is Cassandra Cain. I like to think I give a thoughtful and thorough response. Tell me what you think!
On to the recent news! You’ve heard about this Justice League movie Warner Bros. is desperate to make, right? All us DC fans are hoping they can actually pull it off but somehow I fear it’ll pale in comparison to ‘The Avengers.’ That movie was simply PERFECT. Well, the rumor that blew up the internet last week was Ben Affleck was being sought to direct Justice League - EEK! - though it now appears to be bullshit. Like most internet rumors. But if there was ever any truth to there, it does seem to suggest DC and WB are seeking to make their Justice League gritty and dark. It’s a definite contrast from the flashy Avengers, will it work?
We’re still awaiting an official air date for ‘Doctor Who.’ Most of us are speculating it’ll air either August 25th or September 1st, but neither is soon enough! In fact, there’s an official press screening today in the U.K. and I expect they’ll make some kind of announcement then. At least, I hope. Meanwhile, Steven Moffat and co. are hard at work filming the Christmas special which appears to have a Victorian era setting. Here’s some recent set pics, but be warned, there are spoilers.
And here’s some wonderful news,Matt Smith will continue as the Doctor through 2014! Apparently, the scripts and the direction the show will take post-50th Anniversary is just too good, Smith couldn’t say no. I like to take comfort in this news because now I won’t fear Smith meeting some terrible end in the anniversary special. No regeneration, at least not yet.
Someone has started a silly rumor AMC might be considering a ‘Walking Dead’ movie. I’m hoping this turns up false ‘cause I feel a movie isn’t the right direction. Kirkman wrote these comics to be the zombie movie that never ends. A movie needs an ending, unlike a television series which can put that ending off for as long as it likes. I don’t know, I highly doubt we’ll be seeing ‘The Walking Dead’ in theatres anytime soon. (Unless, of course, you live in the Columbus area and come to the Grandview Theatre where we screen every episode of the series! For FREE. We’re cool like that. Oh, and we screen ‘Doctor Who,’ too.)
Lastly, a couple trailers for upcoming games I’m dying to play: ‘LEGO Lords of the Rings’ and Catwoman’s trailer for ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’, the new DC fighter. The LEGO games are awesome. If you’ve never played them you’re doing yourself a disservice. I really, really, really want to get the ‘Lords of the Rings’ one - and I believe my reasons should be obvious - but I need to finish ‘LEGO Batman 2’ first. ‘Injustice’ is a game I’ll probably pick up once it releases because, HOLY CRAP, you can punch people through walls and throw them into outer space.
All right, Dragon*Con is in 17 days! Who can I expect to see there?

Can someone give this guy a gig drawing a cute and awesome Batgirl/Supergirl team up. Like one I can go to the store and buy. Or buy and download. Listen up DC, the man’s got talent!!
My piece for the Heroes Con art auction this year. Featuring everyone’s favorite superhero duo (well, mine anyhow).
Heroes Con is June 22-24. I’ll be in Indie Island table AA-530 as indicated by this awesome map.

If you’ve followed me and what I write about for even a smidgen of time you’ll know I love cartoons and super heroes. Even more so when they’re combined. As a kid I watched tons of Batman: The Animated Series, X-Men, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but looking back I can’t help but notice what boys clubs they were. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED those shows and still do, but I might not have been such a tomboy had I been shown examples of girls who could both beat the bad guys and go on shopping sprees with their girl friends. When I was a kid I was convinced you had to pick one over the other. And I wanted to kick butt which meant nothing “girly” for me.
Thankfully, I believe we’re making progress away from such contrived gender stereotypes.

Every new number one of DC’s big “New 52” relaunch has been released. Of those new 52 issues I picked up 11,
I’ve given each one a short, little review which can be found below the cut. As expected, I mostly picked titles I already knew I was going to like. What can I say, even at $2.99 a piece all 52 titles would have totally broken the bank. Plus, was anyone actually excited for a book where Harley Quinn looked like a Juggalette?
If you’re interested in what I thought of these eleven titles, again, read my mini-reviews below. Feel free to tell me what you thought about these books, tell me what books I didn’t pick up that I simply must. Hell, you can even tell me if I’m full of shit for adoring Aquaman. In which case I’ll have to slap ya, but I’ll still listen to what you have to say.
