“Then there’s Harley Quinn. Most of the performances in Batman Live are pretty decent, but they’re overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the Manchester Evening News Arena, resulting in the show falling somewhat flat during dialogue heavy sections. The manic energy from The Joker’s lover/sidekick, however is so enthralling that she manages to overcome this in every scene she’s in. From the moment she’s introduced she steals the show, not only providing a measure of comic relief, but also one of the more sympathetic, better written characters in the piece as well. While that has a lot to do with the character, it’s clear that most of this is down to Poppy Tierney’s performance.”

This makes me happy. Even if her costume is atrocious and the only image I can find of her is the unflattering one above, I’m glad that she’s a stand out in the show.

Batman Live Trailer Impresses Us More Than Anything We’ve Seen Thus Far

Which, actually, might not be saying much. The more we’ve seen of Batman Live, the live-action Batman arena show if you haven’t been following along, the more we’ve been, shall we say, unimpressed. This trailer though is nice and flashy, as a trailer should be. It shows off only the best the live show has to offer, like a kick-ass Batmobile.

The circus aspects look awesome, as expected, the choice of a Robin origin story was the best decision they could have made for an arena show. Unlike the weird day-glo stick fighting, which you can still see in the trailer. Even Harley’s atrocious outfit choice doesn’t look half bad when edited in the trailer.

Every comic book character goes through changes. Sometimes their back story is retconned, the altering a character’s continuity retroactively, and completely rewritten. Other times it’s more simple, a costume change. Often these changes happen when transferring a character between mediums, say for instance from comic book to movie or video game. If done correctly they engage a new devoted following for that character, when done poorly, well, is 2004’s Catwoman starring Halle Berry you favorite incarnation of the feline thief? Thought not.

Earlier this week we were treated to a first look at the cast in full costume for the upcoming arena show, Batman Live. They’re were the familiar faces of Batman and his rogues, Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, the Joker and….Pippy Longstocking? Who the hell is the chick with the giant mallet. Oh, it’s supposed to be Harley Quinn!? Well, damn, could have fooled me.

I’ve been noticing a trend. It seems to me every time we see the darling Miss Quinn she’s sporting a new look. Not even updated versions of her famous black and red, checkered body suit, but completely new revisions. Why is Harley in a constant state of redesign?

First Look: The Cast of Batman Live in Full Costume

I guess today is all about showing off your super hero’s new duds. Earlier we had the reveal of the finished costume for the Green Lantern movie and now we’ve got pictures and video of the cast of the stage show, Batman Live in full costume.

The video above is of the Joker introducing his gang of villainious cohorts, Harley Quinn (in yet another redesigned outfit), the Riddler, Poison Ivy, the Penguin and Catwoman. Also, some dudes pretending to be Batman and Robin in shiny, plastic outfits show up.

This needs to become an American Idol-type reality show. Can no one else see the potential!?! If Andrew Lloyd Webber can make shows recasting Maria in The Sound of Music and Joseph in The Technicolor Dream Coat then there must be an audience for this! If not they should make the show anyway; having an audience ready to watch a crap reality show has never been a prerequisite before.

Also, a little nudge to clownyprincess. Judging by the talent pool they had in London you would be a shoe-in for Harley Quinn were they ever to bring the show down under.
