Nerds Say What!?,
Podcast
It’s the inaugural episode of Nerds Say What!? Meet Sarah, Jonnie and Noah. Three nerds who talk about things. Things you like! Movies. Video games. TV. Comic books. Not necessarily in that order or with thoughtful commentary. In this episode they talk about their formative nerd years (Batman! Star Trek! Star Wars!), what they’re excited for in 2012 (The Avengers! Diablo III! Mass Effect! Futurama! Game of Thrones!) and generally get off topic with the tendency to ramble.

(Music: Mind Your Own Business by Delta 5)

Yup, my friends and I have recorded a podcast. We’re hoping to begin by having episodes published bi-weekly eventually moving into weekly. This is our first episode, as in first podcast any of us have ever recorded. We had a lot of fun so I hope people have fun listening.

Please comment and send in suggestions. And follow us on Twitter at @NerdsSayWhat

Simply the best.

Futurama Fanarama: Fry Embroidery

GASP! This is too awesome to exist!

So, yes. This was my first year to attend Dragon*Con and it was a motherf*cking blast! Really no other way to put it.

Hmm, where do I begin? How about the costumes because cosplay at Dragon*Con is un-freaking-believable! I’ll be uploading all my photos soon. Once I figure out where to post them since I’m well beyond my 200 image limit for a free Flickr account. I promise, a link will be forthcoming.

What I can do in the meantime for those craving this epic delight of cosplay is direct you to the first of my Dragon*Con recap posts over at Nerd Bastards: Nerd Bastards’ Dragon*Con 2011 Cosplay Feast. That will have to do until I can figure out where to post all my pics. Suggestions welcome. I shudder at the idea of using Facebook.

Also, this is going to be a very, very image heavy post, your bandwith has been warned. If you see yourself and you’d like me to make mention it’s you or if you’d rather me to remove a photo of you, just let me know.

Let’s begin! Venture forward for pics of our costumes, famous people we met (oh yeah, we hobnobbed) and other various happenings of Dragon*Con!

What will you be doing tonight at 10pm, eastern time? Watching the premiere of new Futurama, right? You damn well better be. We nerds have worked too hard to stop our beloved animated program from disappearing, we can’t drop the ball now. Everyone should be watching tonight in the hopes we can top the numbers of their big return to television last year, which brought in 3 million viewers! Futurama currently has over 14 million fans on Facebook so if even half of those fans watch the not one, but two new episodes tonight Futurama will set records.

Tonight starts the second half of season six with 13 episodes, completing the full order of 26. Comedy Central has already, smartly, ordered another 26 episodes which will air in two chunks keeping us hopped up on Bender into 2013. Over at Nerd Bastards we’ve got some special sneak peak clips of the upcoming episodes just in case you were considering skipping out. Which you weren’t, right? Good.

Let’s recap, new Futurama tonight, 10pm (e) on Comedy Central. There will not only one but two new episodes, so that’s a whole hour of new Futurama. You better be there, or it’s some terrible level of robot hell for you. Most likely with singing.

I’m starting a new weekly column over at Nerd Bastards. It’ll be a compilation of all the neat stuff flooding the internet every week but doesn’t require it’s own separate post. Basically, a bunch of junk we thought you should see. If you have and tips or submissions shoot me an email at nerdybits@nerdbastards.com.

In this week’s addition: Nathan Fillion gets slapped, Marvel vs DC rap, Queen Swan on Teefury, Star Trek fan film from 1971, D&D Encounters, Futurama as D&D characters, Manhattan movie map, Sci-Fi IKEA manuals, 10 Major Comic Events that Actually Mattered, What is the ideal space career for you?, Alien Mother’s Day card, Origami Stormtrooper helmet.

I’ve been neglecting sharing what I write over at Nerd Bastards with all you little tumlberites. Sorry! I’m hoping to ammend that, in fact I’m hoping I can start making myself post everything I write there, here.

For now, enjoy these links to some of my favorite articles I’ve been writing recently. One thing I’d like to note is it’s been a great news cycle for cartoons! Which I greatly enjoy, both the news and the toons.

I’ve dabbled in cosplay. During high school I made Hogwarts uniforms for friends and myself. Of course, those weren’t difficult, mostly a lot of thrifting to find the needed pieces. In recent years I’ve made costumes that were a little more complicated but still an easy level of difficulty. Halloween a few years ago my boyfriend and I were Fry & Leela from Futurama.

These are costumes I must admit I’m a little embarrassed to share, especially how unflattering that tank top is on me, yuck! If I’m ever to do Leela justice I might need to lift a few weights. I intend to one day improve on these costumes. Actual wigs, better eye for myself, etc. But you’ve got to start somewhere, right?

For the annual Zombie Walk last year I had my first experience with the make-up and costume distressing needed for the living dead.

Yes, I totally did donate blood in costume, it was awesome! These costumes were a lot of fun, except that is was the middle of May and to be honest much of it was melting off through out the day. But maybe that helped the look.

My best costume achievement came from Halloween two years ago. I have to say the reason these worked out so nicely is thanks to the amazing sewing skills of my mother. She’s phenomenal and I only hope she can pass these skills on to me. Here are our Joker and Harley costumes based on a casual, hoodie design.

Wedding Cake of the Day: Flickrer Alan Teo says: “Attended my friends’ wedding over the weekend. Both the bride and groom are über-Futurama fans. So naturally, they had to incorporate their favourite show into the wedding somehow. Needless to say, it’s easily the most awesome cake I’ve ever seen.”

Best part? It’s a suppository!

I want this cake!
