It’s currently about 9 o’clock on the west coast and things, I’m guessing, are swinging into party mode in San Diego. I wouldn’t know, not being there and all. Wah, wah.

Anyway, news has been flyin’ out of the con, and I can’t believe there’s still two more days to go! Here’s what I’ve been scrambling to cover today,

This technically broke last but it might end up being some of the biggest news of the con, Neil Gaiman and J.H. Williams III are teaming up for a prequel series to ‘Sandman’! Crazy awesome, right? There’s preview art from Williams as well as the video announcement from Gaiman at the link.

I had blogged earlier about how Karl Urban might have let slip just who Benedict Cumberbatch, ‘Star Trek 2’’s villain, would be playing. Well, at Comic-Con while he was promoting Dredd - check out how fantastic that movie looks - he explained away his accidental leak and then gave us more tantalizing Trek news: “secret” footage will be released on YouTube before the con ends! He just can’t stop, can he? What will that footage be? Who knows! But I guarantee it’ll contain excessive lens flare.

There have been a ton of trailers dropping at Comic-Con and here’s a roundup I did of all those related to video games: Trailers for ‘HALO’ Web Series, DC Fighter ‘Injustice’, & ‘Mass Effect’ Anime, Plus ‘Street Fighter’ Live Action TV Series Announced. The one that really has my attention is ‘Injustice: God Among Us’. Just watch that gameplay footage, it’s incredible looking. The levels are massive and far more interactable than any fighting game I’ve played. It’s impressive, is what I’m getting at.

Comic-Con may have “comic” in the title but anyone familiar with the con knows things have become far more commercialized with a stronger focus on movies and television in recent years. Still, I’m surprised about the amount of comic book news actually coming out of this year’s Comic-Con. So there’s that ‘Sandman’ bit, and here’s another rad annoucement: Brand New ‘Star Wars’ Comic Set After ‘New Hope’ But Before ‘Empire’ Coming From Dark Horse. Yes! Best part, it’ll feature Leia as an X-Wing pilot. Finally, the most kick-ass girl in the galaxy gets to do stuff!

Plus, the covers will be by Alex Ross, and do I need to remind you how beautiful that will be?

Finally, I wrote up some recaps for two panels, ‘The Walking Dead’ and’The Legend of Korra’. Two of my favorite shows, oh how I wish I could have been at those panels. Then again, having been to large cons before, I know how difficult it can be to get in, even after waiting for hours and hours! (grumble, grumble stupid NYCC grumble) But that’s why awesome websites like Cinema Blend run live blog updates, so we can all learn what’s happening inside those ballrooms.

And since it’s probably one of the highlights from the con so far, add in the fact I can’t stop watching it, here’s the season three trailer for ‘The Walking Dead’!

Season three looks fantastic! Sure, I can already see the stuff they’re changing up, but anything that brings The Governor into the story faster is a good change. I can’t wait to see David Morrisey in that role.

What’s awesome is tomorrow I don’t have to leave the house, so I can just stay in, reporting the latest news, watching any available live streams online, and work on developing a nice, sickly, pale hue for my skin.

Batwoman’s Self-titled Series Pushed Back Again, To September

There’s been quite a bit of upheaval in Gotham over the last year or so, particularly where Bats are concerned. Bruce Wayne is no longer the only Batman, in fact he’s been recruiting a whole league of them in Batman Inc. Dick Grayson, former boy wonder became the Batman in Gotham after Bruce died…err was lost in time…err became an evil time bomb. Eh, comics are confusing. Anyway with a new Batman came a new Robin, and after that a new Batgirl. So there are lots of new faces in the Bat family recently.

But there’s one missing, or maybe I should rephrase it to read there’s one I’m missing. Batwoman, Kate Kane, the former marine, kick-ass chick whose not afraid to say she loves the ladies. She’s fierce, passionate and a fantastic addition to the Bat family, even if she’s not been officially sanctioned by the big Bat himself. So where can you catch her daring adventures month to month? Well, you can’t. Her new self-titled series has been delayed, again. Readers were given a preview with Batwoman #0 released back in November of last year with the series to start in February. Then it was pushed to April and you might have noticed ads in your DC books saying this. Well, now the series has been pushed back to September. Can’t a girl catch a break in this man-bat world?

A first look at the new ‘Batwoman’ series : DC’s The Source

Beautiful. But did anyone expect any different from J.H. Williams III? This series needs to start ASAP!

I should invest in an industrial strength super printer so I could make his work into pretty posters for my walls. Not like I don’t already own too many posters, but I want these too! And I’m sure Kinko’s or the like would be pricey. Of course of giant printer monster would also be expensive. Oh, what a dilemma.

Batwoman’s Back, and in her own series no less!

In the coming months, Batwoman will settle into more permanent digs of her own — namely, an ongoing series both written and drawn by (J.H.) Williams. He’ll be getting a co-writer in W. Haden Blackman, a writer known for his work in the Star Wars universe, including the Star Wars: Galaxies MMO and The Force Unleashed video game. Additionally, MADAME XANADU artist Amy Reeder will be stepping in to handle the art for the second arc in the series.

Our goal is to tell a riveting action adventure tale with some heart and drama to it,” Williams said. “We want the reader to learn even more about who Kate Kane is as Batwoman — showing why she is an important addition to the Bat Family of heroes beyond what has already been addressed. We are also wanting to really make sure we start building additions to her own “rogues gallery.” Just how will Kate deal with the fallout between her and her father, Jacob? Will Kate be able to find love other than Renee Montoya, a.k.a. The Question? And as far as flavor — there will be a sprinkle of creepy beings, myth and legends, government agency intrigue, and a surprise return of a fan-favorite character.

YES! I got myself all worked up and worried when I heard about Greg Rucka leaving DC. I’ve fallen in love with Batwoman’s run in Detective Comics and was heartbroken that she might have to disappear for a while. This is fantastic news, especially for J.H. Williams III. And I guess for me as well since it was William’s artwork that made me a die-hard Batwoman fan. Now to wait for the announcement of when this series will start!
